Virginia Kyanite™ and Virginia Mullite™, produced only by KMC, offer unique high-temperature characteristics.Ceramic engineers the world over harness the unique properties of our minerals to improve the performance of their products.  Our Virginia Kyanite™ and Virginia Mullite™ are used extensively not only in refractory products such as castables, bricks, ramming mixes, plastics, mortar, but also in precision investment casting molds, foundry washes and sprays, kiln furniture, electrical insulators, and many other industrial ceramic products. For every ton of Virginia Kyanite™ produced, four tons of ore are extracted from the mountain. Kyanite Mining Corporation has perfected the process of refining kyanite to remove impurities to produce a dependable, high-quality end product. Our modern processing equipment will help us produce ageiske consistent high quality product well into the future.To ensure product quality and consistency, we sample and analyze the product for consistency and process effectiveness, at each major stage of production.The quartzite rock from our mountains typically contains 20 to 30 percent kyanite. In addition to quartz, the rock contains other impurities such as mica, rutile, a variety of iron oxides, clays and many other minerals. The rocks we mine are crushed into progressively  dumping rockssmaller sizes down to an inch or less. During mining and each stage of crushing, the ore is mixed and homogenized to chutesminimize the natural variances in the deposit. The blended ore is then fed to the processing plant in a controlled manner.
