KABEER CHOPRA, FOUNDER

As a senior at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, Kabeer noticed two problems during his summer job at Giant Eagle: massive plastic consumption and underutilized recycling facilities. Few customers returned plastic bags or brought reusable ones. Even his environmentally-conscious family wasn't taking glass to the Borough's recycling center.

That's when he came up with the idea for Green Bridge 412. He believes most people want to make environmentally responsible choices but either don't know the proper recycling steps or lack time to complete them. Green Bridge 412 bridges the gap between good intentions and effective environmental action.

Beyond his environmental work, Kabeer plays football, basketball, and track at school, and enjoys violin, TV shows, and video games with friends.

OUR TEAM

Green Bridge 412 operates thanks to our dedicated team of five volunteers passionate about sustainable living. Our diverse crew includes retirees, college students, and people with cognitive disabilities, all united by a common goal: to reduce waste and make a meaningful environmental impact in our community.

WE COLLECT HARD-TO-RECYCLE ITEMS THAT CAN’T GO IN YOUR CURBSIDE BINS

These include glass bottles and jars, plastic packaging materials, bags, film and used household batteries

PLASTIC PACKAGING MATERIALS: The plastic items include clean and stretchy thin  HDPE (#2) and LDPE (#4) plastics. Please remove any food residue and make sure they are dry. The main categories of these types of plastic are: Grocery and shopping bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, packaging pillows, shrink wraps for bulk water bottles and paper rolls, bread and newspaper bags, ziplocks, ice bags, cereal liners, electronic equipment wrappers.
