H Sivyer Limited

3 Herringham Road, London, Greater London, United Kingdom | Waste Management

Sivyer provides sustainable waste management/recycling and materials supply services for construction/demolition and utilities companies in London and the home counties. We add value and peace of mind for our customers via strong technical support, strict compliance and overall efficiencies, taking pride in our excellent environmental credentials and friendly can-do attitude.

Muck away has always been an important Sivyer service. As well as a conventional waste removal, we offer driver-operated self-loading muck away using grab lorries, so customers don’t need loading machinery.

Waste Management

In total, we currently handle some 1.5m tonnes of construction wastes each year. These are treated according to their specific classifications or European Waste Catalogue (EWC) codes. Sivyer deals with inert, non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams including special wastes like sewage wastes, asbestos, contaminated soils, Japanese knot weed and hog weed.
Technical support is available in respect of waste assessment and compliance, including the use of EWC codes. Monitoring, control of loads and testing programmes are all important parts of a top quality service.
Non-beneficial wastes are disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner.

WRAP

Sivyer works to the WRAP Quality Protocol to produce a range of valuable Recycled Aggregates from inert construction/demolition wastes. The materials concerned reach ‘end of waste’ as they are processed into high quality products that meet British and international standards.
We currently produce around 500,000 tonnes of these materials annually and steadily increase our outputs year on year.
Sivyer is highly supportive of the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and shares its commitment to sustainable resource efficiency.

A UK registered charity, WRAP works with governments, businesses, communities, thought leaders and individuals to re-think the way products are designed, produced and sold, how they are used and consumed, and to re-define what is possible through re-use and recycling

Monitoring and control

Sivyer’s customers are assured of accurate charging for waste collection services since all our vehicles are equipped with weigh-loaders - a real benefit at sites that lack weighbridges. There’s no risk of going over weight or paying for ‘fresh air’ as can happen without proper measurement.
In the interests of compliance and meeting the all-essential Duty of Care capability, all orders are photographed and electronically tagged. All ‘paperwork’ - including conveyance notes, waste transfer notes and Duty of Care information - can be supplied electronically. Captured information is sent to a PDA for signature.

Our heritage

Sivyer probably has the longest heritage of any company in the UK waste and resource management sector. Our story started in 1862, when George Hutchings opened a horse-and-cart muck away business for building contractors in south London. We have come a very long way since then, but retain his original site as one of our transport and recycling hubs.
In the 1920s we started working for water, gas, and electricity companies, followed later by major civil engineering contractors, ground workers, builders’ merchants and landscapers. We played a major role in the post WWII reconstruction of London and have gone on to support numerous prestigious projects including the Olympic Park, Crossrail and the O2 Arena.
While the waste streams, disposal/treatment technologies and transport we originally worked with were markedly different from today’s, our ethos remains constant. Professionalism, excellent service, innovation, investment in advanced technology and environmental best practice are at the heart of Sivyer’s business.

Sivyer today

The Sivyer Group currently employs over 150 people and turns over £30 million. We are headquartered in Charlton, south east London and have logistics hubs and recycling facilities across the capital.
Logistics are at the heart of our waste management and materials supply businesses. Using our own dedicated fleet, we work to the highest standards, regarding planning, management and in the cab, and hold Gold accreditation under FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme).
We aim to help all our customers onto a pathway towards zero waste, operating to the highest safety and compliance standards for your peace of mind - and ours. We shift inert, non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams, treating and recycling the loads as appropriate, to yield materials for current projects under the WRAP Quality Protocol, and we dispose safely of any non-beneficial residues.
Sivyer supplies Primary and Recycled Aggregates, manufactured soils, ready mixed concrete and concrete blocks. The statistics speak for themselves: annually we source and move over 1.5m tonnes of construction wastes, produce and deliver 500,000 tonnes of aggregates and 120,000 tonnes of manufactured BS quality topsoils, along with thousands of cubic metres of ready mixed concrete and concrete blocks.

Our facilities

Victoria Deep Wharf, Greenwich, is a centre of excellence for the production of sustainable Recycled Aggregates and supply of Primary Aggregates. Currently it’s the busiest waste transfer station in London, processing 6-7,000 tonnes a day and recycling 94/95% of that. It’s also the base for our ready mixed concrete and topsoil manufacturing activities.
Head office, together with our logistics, operations and compliance units are all based nearby at Charlton.
Vic Deep is adjacent to the Blackwall tunnel, with easy access to the north and south circulars and major routes in and out of London. It also serves as our road/barge transport hub. Further logistics/recycling hubs at Sydenham, Acton, Edmonton and Bow, encircle central London, and we launched an additional soils production unit at Charlton in early 2016.
Sivyer has been merchanting construction materials since 1862, and thus has an extensive network of trade partnering agreements that additionally support our business.
We invest heavily in processing plant and mechanical handling equipment for all operational sites, for the purpose of achieving end of waste and producing sustainable materials to nationally and internationally recognised standards.
