It could be a traditional septic tank, modern package sewage treatment plant or cesspool, capacity and shapes of which can range in design. They all have the same objective – the disposal of wastewater. This is concealed in a cesspool, displaced as clarified effluent from a septic tank to a soakaway, or in the case of a package sewage treatment plant where effluent meets the latest European standards, is discharged into a watercourse.
