PLATIO

History

The idea of PLATIO solar pavement was coming from three childhood friends, Imre Sziszák, a mechanical engineer, József Cseh, a chemical engineer, and Miklós Ilyés, a landscape architect, co-founders of the company. Miklós was involved in designing several urban squares and pavements and was shocked by the amount of building materials cities use to build dull, grey pavements, while humanity still has no idea what to do with the ever-increasing, slowly decomposing plastic waste. So the question has risen: ‘Why not make paving stones from recycled waste? And if so many surfaces are paved in the city, why don’t we make use of it and generate energy too?”

In 2015, PLATIO was just an idea, but development quickly got moving. The co-founders submitted their idea to the Design Terminal’s Smart City Lab competition, and they successfully won with PLATIO. The startup competition caught the attention of many people and gained private investors to the company.

PLATIO’s product development team presented its first prototypes in 2016 and after having them finalised, they launched their first live project in Astana in the Green Quarter area of the World Expo in the spring of 2017. Following this, several pilot projects were implemented during this year, targeting different applications areas such as electric car charging systems, a marine pontoon power supply system and outdoor smart furniture.

The start-up, that was build up on the ideas of three friends, has now grown to a team of 16 people and has a worldwide distributor network covering 37 countries.

Vision

We dream of a green future where recycled materials and solar technology become part of modern architecture.

Our goal is to offer renewable energy source for cities, buildings, homes and ports, paving the way to a greener future.

We want to replace grey paving stones and asphalt with aesthetically pleasing and useful paving in urban spaces, parks and even in homes.
