Keep Garbage Beneficial is a very small business with very big ideals. A pioneer recycler, the business has grown from an obscure volunteer effort in the mid eighties to the primary recycling endeavour of the tiny village of Pugwash. What it lacks in fancy buildings and equipment it has amply made up for by landscaping its premise and diversifying its services.

The KGB is a bottle refund depot, an electronic waste drop-off site and waste paint depot. Because organic waste is banned from the garbage in Nova Scotia, the depot offers a community compost drop-off where vermicomposting (composting with worms) creates a product that is used to raise cut flowers and. Wine bottles are cut and made into all sorts of bottle craft including wine glasses, flower vases, hanging candles and wind chimes.
