The Association of Swiss Automobile Importers auto-schweiz established the foundation in 1992 with the aim of promoting the environmentally friendly disposal of motor vehicles and closing material cycles. Today's car recycling recovers high-quality and valuable raw materials from accident and end-of-life vehicles. They get back into the production of vehicles and other products via smelting plants. Thermal recycling plants extract thermal energy from the residual materials for the production of electricity and district heating.
