Glass collection and disposal

The glass is a material called 'clean' because it is not produced with polluting substances, it can be easily reused and recycled many times.

It is made up of sand, soda and limestone, melted together at very high temperatures.

Glass waste

Glass collection : Glass bottles, glass jars, broken glass.

This is not glass!

This is the case of the so-called 'false friends of glass': we are talking about light bulbs, porcelain tableware, pyrex tableware, TV screens, monitors, oven glass. These materials look like glass, or in any case contain it, but they are insidious because they must necessarily be distinguished from glass and not recycled in the bins reserved for it.

Disposal and Recycling

Glass cullet from separate collection is mostly used to obtain hollow glass (bottles, flasks and glass jars). Recycling glass means melting it at temperatures much lower than those required with virgin material, thus saving resources, because the extraction of raw materials is reduced, and saving energy.

After collection, the cullet is subjected to some treatments to remove impurities from other materials (including paper, plastic, ceramics and metals), such treatments include:

Washing with water

Manual separation

Screening

Suction with air

Iron removal using magnetic devices and metal detectors.
