Westarp has been collecting scrap iron for over 100 years. Even at the beginning of industrialization in the Ruhr area, it is mentioned in public documents that the Westarp family collected scrap iron. What could not be reused directly was also recycled back then, the current word recycling was anyway the principle of economic activity. Scrap iron is a sought-after raw material today as it was then and the basis of the iron-making industry worldwide.
