ART GmbH

ART Abfallberatungs- und Verwertungsgesellschaft mbH (ART GmbH) is a 100% subsidiary of the ART association ( www.art-trier.de ), which acts as a public waste disposal agency for the disposal of waste in the city of Trier and the Trier district. Saarburg, the Eifel district Bitburg, the district Vulkaneifel and the district Bernkastel-Wittlich is sovereignly responsible.

About 90 people are employed by ART GmbH.

ART GmbH has been operating a sorting system for light packaging (LVP) in the port of Trier since 1992 which, thanks to its technical equipment, is state-of-the-art. The fully automatic sorting system sorts around 100,000 tons of light packaging, which is collected in the context of dual disposal in accordance with the legal requirements of the current packaging law.

Lightweight packaging (LVP) is sales packaging that is recorded in Germany in the yellow bin or in the yellow sack from private households or comparable sources. 

The collection and recycling of lightweight packaging (LVP) is the responsibility of the various dual systems. This lightweight packaging consists of packaging made of plastic (cups, foils or plastic bottles), metal packaging made of aluminum and tinplate, composite packaging such as beverage cartons and other packaging made of several materials.

The automatic sorting of the packaging using near-infrared technology (NIR) into the plastic types polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is the heart of the system. 

As part of the waste glass collection, ART GmbH collects waste glass in various areas in the Trier area on behalf of the dual systems. The waste glass from the depot containers, which is recorded according to color, is handled on the company premises and from there it is fed to the various recycling plants.
