Fire breaks out at Rayonier Paper Mill in Jesup

A digester caught fire at the same mill in 2024, a large industrial unit used in the chemical process of making paper pulp.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A fire broke out late Saturday at the Rayonier Paper Mill in Jesup, prompting a large multi-agency response from fire departments across the region.

Jesup Fire Chief Jared Huffman confirmed the fire is contained, with crews working to extinguish hot spots. The blaze caused significant damage to a mill building, though the full extent has not yet been assessed.

Huffman has not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.
