eCycle Opportunities Collects 4,000+ Pounds of E-Waste at Free Event

The event was designed to help residents safely discard electronics that had been replaced during Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): eCycle Opportunities, an electronic recycling facility operated by Gesher Human Services, which employs people with barriers to employment, collected more than 4,000 pounds of waste electronics at its free disposal event on Dec. 4.

The event was designed to help residents safely discard electronics that had been replaced during Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, keeping these unwanted items out of landfills. The community dropped off 779 pounds of computers, 631 pounds of printers, 111 pounds of LCD monitors, 867 pounds of LCD TVs, 998 pounds of CRT (old bulky style TVs and monitors) and 805 pounds of miscellaneous waste such as VCRs, speakers, tablets and keyboards.

“Despite the freezing weather, the community still came out and showed us their support, and we are very grateful,” said eCycle Opportunities Manager Justin Lunning. “Keeping these items out of the ground is so important for our environment, and we welcome both businesses and residents to contact us when they have unwanted electronics rather than throw these items in the trash.”
