U.S. Steel Shipments Up Yearly in October Despite Month-to-Month Decline

However, the industry saw a 4.2% pullback from September’s output, when mills shipped 8.033 million net tons.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported mixed shipment trends for October 2025, highlighting both year-on-year improvement and a month-on-month slowdown.

According to AISI’s latest monthly data, U.S. steel mills delivered 7.692 million net tons of finished steel during October. This volume is 9.2% higher than the 7.047 million net tons shipped in October 2024, signaling stronger market activity compared with last year. However, the industry saw a 4.2% pullback from September’s output, when mills shipped 8.033 million net tons.

Cumulatively, shipments in the January–October 2025 period reached 76.425 million net tons, marking a 5.1% increase over the same timeframe in 2024, when totals stood at 72.731 million net tons.

AISI’s breakdown of major product categories shows varied performance so far this year. Corrosion-resistant sheet shipments are up 4%, supported by demand from the construction and automotive sectors. Hot-rolled sheet and strip volumes remained largely unchanged year over year, reflecting stable end-use consumption. In contrast, cold-rolled sheet and strip shipments slipped 3%, indicating softer demand in certain manufacturing segments.

Overall, the latest AISI statistics suggest the U.S. steel sector is maintaining steady momentum, despite month-to-month fluctuations.
