UPM to Cease Kaukas Mill Paper Production by Q4 2025

UPM stated that an after-care team will be in place at the mill site in order to ensure safe conditions at the mill even after the closure.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): By the conclusion of Q4 2025, UPM plans to permanently shut down the Kaukas Paper Machine 1's paper output. In July of this year, it was announced that production would be permanently stopped.

A news release from the corporation claims that it has successfully finished the employee consultation procedures. 220 employees will be laid off as a result of the shutdown. Additionally, it will cut the company's annual production capacity of coated mechanical paper by about 300,000 tons. Furthermore, it stated that the UPM Rauma mill will henceforth produce Finland's coated mechanical paper.

He commended the Kaukas paper mill's talented staff for maintaining steady operations for the past few weeks under challenging circumstances.

Laaksonen added that in order to lessen the effects of the shutdown, the company will concentrate on finding solutions for the impacted employees.

In order to maintain safe conditions at the mill even after the shutdown, UPM said that an after-care staff would be stationed at the mill site.
