‘Bottles for Change’ Initiative to Promote Plastic Recycling in a Big Way
Bisleri claims that more than 19,300 tonnes of plastics have already been gathered and recycled as a result of the program.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to leading multinational bottled water brand Bisleri, its ‘Bottles for Change’ initiative aims to promote plastic recycling in India. The country consumes approximately 13 million tonnes of plastic every year, out of which only 60% is recycled. The remaining 40% either ends up in landfills or water bodies or are incinerated.
The project was started as part of the business's sustainability campaign. It has a smartphone application that makes it simple for citizens to communicate with recyclers and other players in the plastics value chain. It stated that milk pouches, multilayer chip packages, plastic bags, and wrappers are the most often thrown away plastic products.
Bisleri claims that more than 19,300 tonnes of plastics have already been gathered and recycled as a result of the program. After being correctly channelled to recycling facilities, the collected bottles are converted into a variety of valuable items. Durable sheets are created by recycling the multilayer polymers.
According to K. Ganesh, head of corporate relations and sustainability at Bisleri International, PET bottles may be recycled and turned into fibre yarn. Additionally, it may be recycled into rPET, which could then be used to create new plastic bottles.
