Chillicothe Paper Mill to Host Job Fair, 780 Employees will Lose Job by August

The job fair will be held at Ohio University Chillicothe’s campus inside the Shoemaker Center from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hundreds of employees facing job loss due to the impending closure of the Pixelle Specialty Solutions paper mill have an opportunity to explore new career paths on Wednesday. The company is hosting a job fair as the mill prepares to end production on August 10, resulting in the loss of 780 jobs.

The job fair will be held at Ohio University Chillicothe’s campus inside the Shoemaker Center from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

Pixelle employees can attend the event and connect with regional employers and workforce development services. It also gives local employers a chance to meet with and potentially hire local employees who will be displaced due to the Pixelle closure.

Workers first heard about the pending closure in April. Days later, Senator Bernie Moreno held a press conference and told workers the closure would be put on pause until the end of 2025. But in the weeks that followed, Pixelle claimed staffing levels and customer demand were just not where they should be to carry on through the end of the year.

The event is being organized in partnership by several local and regional organizations, including the Area 20 Workforce Development Board, OhioMeansJobs of South Central Ohio, the Ross County Chamber of Commerce, OhioSE, and JobsOhio in cooperation with Pixelle.

“We want to ensure that these skilled workers have access to new opportunities as well as the support they need to transition smoothly,” Rick Szabrak, the Executive Director of the Area 20 Workforce Development Board said. “This job fair is a chance for both Pixelle employees and employers from across the region to network and find the right fit for themselves or their company.'

Production at the Pixelle plant is scheduled to end on August 10, 2025. The event is only open to Pixelle employees.
