Barrick’s Twiga Partnership Redefined the Role of Mining in Tanzania’s Development
Mark Bristow, president and chief executive, Barrick noted that the partnership has led to creation of a sustainable model for mineral development in Tanzania.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Over the past five years, the Twiga partnership between Barrick Mining Corporation and the Tanzanian government has continued to reshape the role of mining in the nation's growth. The business has contributed $4.79 billion to Tanzania's economy since assuming operational control in 2019, including $558 million in the first half of this year alone.
A $30 million joint investment has been made in the partnership's Future Forward education program, which aims to improve school infrastructure nationwide. An additional 45,000 students will have classroom space thanks to the program, which is presently in its second phase.
