New Indianapolis Plastics Recycling Complex to Advance Circularity for Plastic Packaging

The complex comprises of two buildings totalling approximately 300,000 square feet.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Blue Polymers, LLC and Republic Services, Inc. commemorated the opening of a new plastics recycling facility in Indianapolis. This is North America's first Polymer Center and Blue Polymers plastics recycling complex.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Republic Services CEO Jon Vander Ark were among those present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, to commemorate the official opening of the plastics recycling complex.

Two buildings totaling about 300,000 square feet make up the complex. Approximately 125 permanent, highly skilled employment are anticipated to be created by these facilities taken together.

The Polymer Center will process recycled plastics collected from homes and businesses in Indiana and surrounding areas. This facility is owned and operated by Republic Services.

Circularity in plastic packaging is advanced by the Blue Polymers and Indianapolis Polymer Center factories' combined yearly capacity of over 175 million pounds of recovered plastics. Food-grade packaging is just one of the many uses for the resulting recycled plastics.

The project is being funded by tax credits from the City of Indianapolis, Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC), and IEDC Hoosier Business Investment, as well as a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for the Central Indiana Waste Diversion Pilot Project.
