Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- February 28, 2025

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright edged higher by 1.59% in the last week.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of February 21–27, 2025, are given in the report that follows:

 

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a modest increase of 1.63% in the price of copper scrap.

North America

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright edged higher by 1.59% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing was up 1.63% from the start of the week, closing the week at $4.37 a pound. Likewise, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing increased by $0.07 per pound, from $4.20 to $4.27.

USA East Coast

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index increased by 1.59% for the week, from $4.40 to $4.47 per pound, as of Thursday, February 27, 2025. Over the past week, the price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing edged higher from $4.30 to $4.37 per pound. By the end of the week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was selling for $4.27 per pound, a slight increase of 1.67%.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has edged higher by 1.63% in the last week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing saw a marginal 1.67% upside at the end of the week, going up from $4.20 to $4.27 per pound. The price of copper scrap in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category witnessed a jump of 1.71%. The price per pound increased from $4.10 to $4.17 during the week.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright increased by 1.58% during the week, from $4.43 to $4.50 per pound. This week, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing's price inched higher slightly from $4.33 to $4.40 a pound. By the end of the week, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had recorded an upward movement of 1.65%, from $4.23 to $4.30 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index experienced a slight decline during the previous week, which ended on February 27, 2025. The weekly closing price of the commodity was CNY 75,900 per MT, which was lower than the previous week's price of CNY 76,000 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price slipped by 0.14% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was down by 0.14% at the conclusion of the week, falling from CNY 71,300 per MT to CNY 71,200 per MT.

Europe

From the previous week, the weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained at $6,000 per tonne.  On the Index, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing was unchanged from the previous week at $5,200 per tonne. Additionally, during the week ending February 27, 2025, there was no change in the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index.

 

Brass Scrap Prices

The prices for brass scrap inched higher by 1.62% from the previous week.

 

North America

Red Brass went higher from $2.55 to $2.59 per pound by the conclusion of the week. Yellow Brass also increased on the Index. The price of the commodity recorded a jump from $2.40 to $2.44 per pound, a 1.67% increase.

Over the previous week, Red Brass's price increased by 1.57%. Toward the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went higher from $2.40 to $2.44.

USA Midwest

Red Brass prices went up from $2.53 to $2.57 per pound, a marginal 1.58% increase from the week before. Additionally, Yellow Brass prices increased on the Index. The commodity's price edged higher by 1.70%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 1.54% from the previous week at $2.63 a pound as of Thursday, February 27, 2025. In addition, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased 1.67% over the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices witnessed minor decline during the week ending February 20, 2025. The Index shows that Red Brass' price recorded a decline from CNY 38,400 per MT to CNY 38,350, while Yellow Brass' price witnessed week-on-week decline by 0.14% to close at CNY 35,500 per MT.

 

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal decline of 0.41% over the previous week.

North America

E.C. Aluminum Wire's pricing decreased by 1.65% from $1.21 per pound the week before to $1.19 per pound. The price of 6063 Extrusions during the week ending February 27, 2025, witnessed no change from the week before. On the Index, the price of Old Cast recorded no variation. Additionally, UBC's prices were flat week-on-week.

Over the past week, E.C. Aluminum Wire's price witnessed a decline of 1.65% on the Index. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions held steady during the week ending February 27, 2025. The Index indicated no change in Old Cast pricing. Also, during the previous week, UBC's prices witnessed no variation on the Index.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has decreased by 1.65%. The commodity's price ended the week at $1.19 per pound last week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions recorded no change over the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that both UBC and Old Cast's prices were flat from the previous week.

USA West Coast

Over the preceding week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire dipped by 1.65% to $$1.19 per pound. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of 6063 Extrusions were unchanged on the Index. Over the course of the week, the prices of Old Cast in the Index recorded no variation. As of February 27, 2025, UBC's prices also held steady at $0.83 per Lb.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices were down on the Index, falling from CNY 19,600 per MT to CNY 19,450 per MT. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions declined by 0.81% to CNY 18,350 per MT, when compared with the previous week. The price of Old Cast edged lower by 0.82% on the Index as of February 27, 2025. UBC prices recorded decline during the week to close at CNY 12,550 per MT.

Europe

The price of Old Cast held constant at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. Furthermore, UBC prices remained at $1,250 per tonne, the same as the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

 

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded a marginal increase of 1.61% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS Solid pricing trend indicates that the commodity's price recorded an increase of 1.61% over the prior week. The commodity's price was up from $0.62 per pound a week before to $0.63 per pound to end the week.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported increase when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has edged higher by 5.71%. The commodity's price closed at $370 per MT. In addition, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap jumped by 4.94% over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was up from $280 per MT to $300 per MT. In addition, #1 Busheling's price recorded a jump of 7.23% throughout the week.

The price of HMS 80/20 was up by 7.14% for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices edged higher by 7.23% week-on-week.

USA Midwest

#1 HMS's prices edged higher by 5.71% during the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise up by 4.94% during the week. At $300 per MT, the Index's HMS 80/20 pricing recorded a jump of 7.14% from $280 per MT. The price of #1 Busheling also were up by 7.23% during the week ending February 27, 2025.

USA West Coast

The #1 HMS pricing witnessed a jump of 5.71% during the past week. The price of the commodity closed the week at $370 per MT. At $425 per MT over the week, prices for Shredded Auto Scrap recorded a jump by 4.94%. Upon comparison with the previous week, HMS 80/20 prices edged higher by 7.14%. Furthermore, during the week, the price of #1 Busheling were up by 7.23%.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

There was no change in the price of #1 HMS during the course of the week; the ScrapMonster Index showed prices being constant at $170 per MT. Over the course of the week, Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $130 per MT from the previous week.

 

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

The prices of Scrap Auto Batteries on the index reported no variation in the last week. The price of the commodity were unchanged at CNY 6,950 per MT during the week ended Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Europe

The price per ton of Scrap Auto Batteries remained at $820 throughout the week, unchanged from the previous week.

 

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded decline in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast fell from $0.75 per Lb at the start of the week to end at $0.74 per Lb. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise witnessed marginal decline. As of Thursday, February 27, 2025, the closing price of the commodity dipped to $0.62 a pound.

New Zinc Die Cast prices fell marginally by 1.33% to close the week at $0.74 per Lb. Additionally, the Index showed downward trend in the price of Old Zinc Die Cast. The weekly closing price of the commodity was $0.62 per pound.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. The price per tonne remained at $800.
