The San Mateo County health officials, in a statement, urged residents who are sensitive to smoke to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and ensure that air conditioners and fans are not pulling in air from outdoors.

This is not the first fire incident at the scrap metal facility. The Redwood City recycling facility has reported multiple fire incidents earlier also. A large fire that broke out at the facility in 2021 had triggered many explosions, causing damage to several vehicles and injuring one worker. Just weeks after that incident, the State of California had ordered the company to assess the level of pollution caused by the facility and take necessary corrective measures to address the issue.
