Sappi Starts Consultations on Lanaken Mill Closure
Sappi Limited' European subsidiary Sappi Europe has commenced consultations on the future of the Lanaken mill in Belgium.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Under the pressure of weak markets, low demand and excess supply Sappi Limited is set to further reduce its exposure to graphic paper markets. Following a decision to shut down the Stockstadt paper mill in Germany, the company also plans to close the Lanaken mill in Belgium.
Sappi Limited' European subsidiary Sappi Europe has commenced consultations on the future of the Lanaken mill in Belgium. The company had informed the mill's management and the works councils, and started the consultation process on the potential closure of the Lanaken mill. The company would also evaluate the potentials for reducing fixed and other overhead costs, it said.
