DS Smith Sustanainable Products Won ScanStar Design Awards
The cardboard gift basket for confectionary and wine products offers a sustainable replacement to the wooden packaging used in the past.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith has been once again recognized internationally for its innovative and sustainable packaging designs. The company won three prestigious awards at the ScanStar design competition.
The first award was won by the packaging for Artek's iconic stool designed by the Finnish team led by Jyrki Valkama. The packaging is made entirely of corrugated cardboard. The legs of the chair are protected by a corrugated cardboard structure. The handle makes it easy to carry. The packaging solution eliminates the need to wrap the legs of the product in plastic, thus making it unique from previous packaging solutions.

The second award-winning packaging solution was Bobbin Pack carton packaging from Sweden. It is capable of serving a wide range of various product sizes. The cut outs at the sides of the product enables it to adjust the height of the lid to suit different products, said the company press release.
Also, the company’s Danish packaging, Eliza won the award. The cardboard gift basket for confectionary and wine products offers a sustainable replacement to the wooden packaging used in the past. Its distinctive design offers logistics benefits, thus resulting in significant economic savings. Moreover, the open-flute surface gives it a premium feel.
