MPS, Tide Ocean Collaborate to Combat Marine Plastic Pollution
Apart from addressing marine pollution, the initiative will revolutionize the management of operational plastic waste by the cruise industry.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Maritime Procurement Services (MPS) has joined hands with Tide Ocean SA-a leading processor of ocean-bound plastic to form a joint venture named Tide Ocean (MPS) LLC. The new collaboration aims to reduce ocean-bound plastic pollution and promote responsible plastic waste management by cruise ships.
Tide Ocean (MPS) LLC joint venture ensures vital source of income to local communities and fisherman in return for collection of ocean-bound plastics. It also aims to protect endangered species such as sea turtles in Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel and Progreso cruise ports.
Apart from addressing marine pollution, the initiative will revolutionize the management of operational plastic waste by the cruise industry. This includes solution to collect, sort and upcycle a wide range of plastics generated on cruise ships. By doing so, it helps in diverting huge volumes of waste from ending up in landfills.
The partnership will immediately commence its operations in Ensenada. The operations in Puerto Vallarta will start in October, followed by Progresso and Cozumel in the second quarter next year. The operations will be later expanded to Caribbean region as well.
The collaboration encourages cruise lines to participate in the initiative to advance their efforts towards net-zero emission goal by 2050.
