DS Smith Collaborates to Volunteer Coastal Clean-Up Drive
The event raised concerns about the amount of recyclable waste being discarded by people.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith- the London-headquartered leading international packaging company, in association with Kattegatcenter, an ocean awareness charitable fund, organised a coastal clean-up day in Denmark, which saw collections of approximately 50 kilograms of waste.
The event, held in Grenna, Denmark, saw participation of as many as 50 volunteers from DS Smith and Kattegatcenter, along with individuals with learning difficulties, who were invited to take part in the event by the charitable fund. Apart from reducing waste across the local community, the event also aimed at creating awareness among participants on the relevance of a circular economy and the benefits of recycling.

The participants were divided into five teams. Each team collected over 10 kilograms of waste, which was later sorted and disposed of safely. The collected waste included glass bottles and abandoned beach blankets. The event raised concerns about the amount of recyclable waste being discarded by people.
Commenting on the event, Dan Johannessen, CEO, DS Smith Denmark said that the primary purpose of the event was to ensure that all participants felt part of a common mission to reduce waste across the local community in Grenna.
