CODELCO, Aurubis Collaborated to Boost Sustainable Copper Value Chain
The MoU supports the German-Chilean Raw Materials Partnership and identifies potential areas of cooperation in smelter operations and circular economy projects in Chile.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Aurubis and Codelco has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which promises increased co-operation on more responsible and sustainable copper industry and value chain.
The MoU supports the German-Chilean Raw Materials Partnership and identifies potential areas of cooperation in smelter operations and circular economy projects in Chile. Both the parties expressed support to the Partnership, which proposes intensified cooperation in the fields of mining, development, trade with raw materials and the circular economy. Furthermore, it promises a concerted effort to promote the Copper Mark standard for sustainability and supply chain integrity.

Roland Harings, CEO of Aurubis commented that the future cooperation with Codelco has the potential to immensely contribute to advancing the sustainability of the copper supply chain.
Maximo Pacheco, Chairman, Codelco noted that the key challenge in front of the company is to increase its copper production in an environmentally responsible manner. The agreement with Aurubis will contribute in a virtuous way to its objectives, he added. Codelco targets to be a leader in development with environmental protection, said Andre Sougarret, CEO of the company.
