Another ordinance passed by the city expands the single-use plastic bag prohibition to apparel stores, hardware stores, farmers markets, food and beverage establishments and other locations, which will be implemented in multiple phases over the next year. A third ordinance urges city administration to limit single-use plastic products and promote waste diversion at its own facilities, or events held on its property, starting in 2023.

The San Diego ordinance to ban certain EPS foam products will take effect in early 2023. The ordinance also aims to restrict the use of plastic products. Starting next year, food vendors need to offer plastic or bio-plastic utensils and straws to customers only upon request.
