Jindal Shaheed Group to Construct New Green Steel Facility
The steelmaker has already obtained necessary regulatory approvals to secure land for the proposed steel plant.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Jindal Shaheen Group plans to invest around $3 billion to establish a new green steel manufacturing facility to produce high-strength automotive steel products for customers not only in the Middle East, but also in Europe and Japan.
The plant, which will use renewable energy sources to power its manufacturing activities, will be built at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) in the Sultanate of Oman. It is considered to be the largest-of-its-kind green steel plant within the zone. The green hydrogen-ready plant is expected to have a production capacity of approximately 5 million tons per year. The steelmaker has already obtained necessary regulatory approvals to secure land for the proposed steel plant.
The announcement of the project was made during a recent ceremony, in which a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a land allocation agreement was signed. The MoU was signed between Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, deputy chairman of Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) and Harssha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Shadeed Group.
The setting up of the plant is in response to rising demand for green steel from ESG conscious customers, especially in Europe and Asia.
