World Crude Steel Output Witnessed Further Decline in June

The output by Russia & Other CIS + Ukraine dropped the most, falling by 34.3% over the year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 158.1 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of June this year, down by 5.90% compared to the same month a year before.

The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose regional steel output totalled 118.80 Mt in June 2022. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 11.80 Mt. In third place was North America, which recorded an output of 9.60 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.2), Russia & Other CIS + Ukraine (5.9), Other Europe (3.8), Middle East (3.4) and South America (3.7).

The crude steel output reported year-over-year decline in all regions across the world.

The output by Russia & Other CIS + Ukraine dropped the most, falling by 34.3% over the year. The African steel output too witnessed significant decline by 18.7%. The monthly output by the Middle East and the EU-27 regions was down by 5.0% and 12.2% respectively, compared to June 2021. The Other Europe region steel output has dipped by 10.9% year-on-year. The North and South American output dipped by 2.4% and 4.9% respectively. Meantime, Asia & Oceania region recorded the lowest year-on-year decline by 3.1% in June 2022.

The topmost steel producing country was China, with an output of 90.7 Mt in June this year. The other key steel producing countries were India (10.0 Mt) and Japan (7.4 Mt).
