Crude Steel Output by Heibi Province Plunged in 2021
Other major steelmaking provinces too recorded fall in production during the year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The crude steel output by Heibi province recorded notable decline during the previous year. The country’s top steel-producing province saw its output plunge by 10% over 2020. The reduced output was mainly on account of strict environment controls by the Chinese administration.
The most recent data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) suggests that the steel output by the province totalled 225 million tonnes in 2021, which is significantly down by almost 10% from the prior year. The province accounted for more than one-fifth of the country’s total crude steel production. It must be noted that the Chinese crude steel production had totalled 1.03 billion tonnes during the previous year, falling marginally by 3% from 2020.

Other major steelmaking provinces too recorded fall in production during the year. For instance, Jiangsu and Shandong- the second and third largest producers saw their output drop by 1.5% and 4.3% respectively.
The Chinese administration has already instructed steel mills in the vicinity of Beijing to cut their steel output until mid-March this year, on account of the Winter Olympics. Although output cuts are likely to be lifted later, the overall steel output for the current year is still expected to drop.
