AF&PA Announced Five Ambitious Goals for Paper Industry
The AF&PA had earlier released Better Practices, Better Planet 2020, whose sustainability goals were achieved or exceeded by its members.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced ambitious goals for the paper and wood products industry. The new set of five goals was outlined in the recently released document titled ‘Better Practices, Better Planet 2030: Sustainable Products for a Sustainable Future’.
The sustainability goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, advancing a circular value chain by promoting production of renewable and recyclable products, aiming for zero workplace injuries and reducing serious injuries and fatalities, driving water stewardship throughout manufacturing operations and building more resilient U.S. forests, said AF&PA press release.
The AF&PA had earlier released Better Practices, Better Planet 2020, whose sustainability goals were achieved or exceeded by its members. As a result, AF&PA members had achieved significant reduction in GHG emissions, notable improvement in energy efficiency as well as substantial reduction in workplace injuries.
Heidi Brock, President and CEO, AF&PA stated that the paper and wood products industry was among the first to adopt definite sustainability goals, as early as 2011. The new ambitious goals will help it to build upon that success in the forthcoming ten years, she added.
