New E-Waste Project to Establish Electronics Recycling Plants and Bins

The project titled ‘E-Safai’ was launched on 10th November, 2020.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): RLG India has joined hands with GIZ India to launch a three-year long e-waste management initiative in the country. The project titled ‘E-Safai’ was launched on 10th November, 2020. The initiative is being supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). 

The project aims to create awareness about safe and sustainable handling of e-waste among various stakeholders. Also, the program will focus on integration of the informal e-waste management sector in select cities with the formal stream. In addition, it aims to build new capacities in informal sector to strengthen the recycling and disposal infrastructure. Last, but not least, it also intends to offer policy advisory towards enhancing the country’s e-waste management system.

Over the next three years, the project will establish two recycling plants, 90 e-waste bins, as well as four collection centers. It will reach nearly 300,000 customers through a series of online and on-ground campaigns. It promises to generate over 1,000 employment opportunities.

RLG India is part of Munich-headquartered Reverse Logistics Group (RLG) and GIZ India, a part of GIZ GmbH, a Germany-based development agency.
