FPAC Rebuts U.S. Lobby Group's Remarks on Canadian Forest Sector

The industry has played a key role to help Canadians and Americans weather the unprecedented crisis situation out of the pandemic spread.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) denounced a new report published by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a U.S.-based lobby group, which shares critical view of Canada’s forest sector.

According to FPAC, the report fails to represent a correct picture of the Canadian forest products industry. Further, it makes several false claims and accusations. For instance, the report states that the toilet paper manufacturing sector puts boreal forests at risk. The actual fact is that forest products from Canada’s boreal region are made using the most responsible techniques and procedures.

FPAC Foresees 'Brutal' Quarters Ahead for Canadian Forestry Sector

The industry has played a key role to help Canadians and Americans weather the unprecedented crisis situation out of the pandemic spread. It has adorned a vital part of supply chains that produce in-demand products for various sectors such as healthcare and in the manufacture of essential items like masks, gowns, tissue and toilet paper. Owing to the vital role played by the industry, the Canadian government had designated the forest sector as an essential service, FPAC noted.

Although the Association has reached out to NRDC on initiating a constructive dialogue between the groups, it has not yet responded. FPAC is still open to dialogues, the press release said.
