Macau’s New E-Waste Recycling Program Focuses on Large Appliances

The new recycling program will be an extension of the Computer and Telecommunication Devices Recycling Program.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Macau government announced the launch of new recycling program starting January 1, 2020. The new program targets massive expansion by including more types of domestic appliances including refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, televisions and computers. The announcement to this effect came from the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA).

The new recycling program will be an extension of the Computer and Telecommunication Devices Recycling Program, which till date has recycled approximately 73,000 electronic devices. It will allow individuals, schools, nonprofit organizations and government departments to call DSPA to fix prior appointment for recycling collection services. Additionally, DSPA will launch another program to boost recycling by placing bins inside selected buildings.

The collected home appliances that are in good condition and are found reusable will be donated to charities. The remaining will be disassembled and processed by DSPA contractor for components, which will be exported to other countries for further processing.
