U.S. Raw Steel Output On a Decline

The adjusted cumulative raw steel production by the U.S. totalled 72.593 million NT through the week ended September 28, 2019.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel production extended decline during the week ended on September 28, 2019. This is upon comparison with the same week a year before. However, the production for the week edged higher marginally when compared with the prior week.

In accordance with data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the U.S. domestic raw steel production in the week ended September 28, 2019 totalled 1.825 million net tons (NT). The mills operated at a capability utilization rate of 78.4% during the week. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.866 million NT at comparatively higher capacity utilization rate of 79.6% during the year ago week.

Meantime, the raw steel output during the week inched higher marginally by 0.1% week-over-week. The production had totalled 1.809 million NT in the week ended September 21, 2019.

The adjusted cumulative raw steel production by the U.S. totalled 72.593 million NT through the week ended September 28, 2019. The mill capability utilization rate averaged at 80.6% during this period. The year-to-date production surged higher by 3.4% in 2019. As per AISI data, the production had totalled only 70.187 million NT during the corresponding year-to-date period last year.

The key producing region was the Southern region, whose crude steel production totalled 683,000 NT. The output by the other regions in net tons is as follows: North East-205,000, Midwest-201,000, Great Lakes-666,000 and Western-70,000.
