EACOM Nairn Centre Sawmill Completes 70 Years of Operation

EACOM has invested more than $12 million in technology and equipment upgrades at the facility since 2015.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): EACOM Timber Corporation reached a historic milestone with its Nairn Centre sawmilll completing 70 years of operation. The mill, located around 50 kilometres southwest of Sudbury, was founded by Myron Austin and Benjamin F. Merwin way back in 1949. The mill, over the years, has been a key contributor in the development of a rich forestry tradition in the region, adjusting itself to changing times and evolving technologies. The celebration ceremony to mark the occasion was attended by former and present employees of the company.

EACOM has invested more than $12 million in technology and equipment upgrades at the facility since 2015. The upgrades include installation of a machine stress rated system, auto grader, lug loader, airboard tracker and trimmer optimizer. The employee strength at the facility has grown multifold from 19 to almost 170. The mill is a key supplier to North American home building market and has an annual production capacity of around 300,000 Mfbm.

Wade Zammit, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, EACOM stated that the milestone underscores the hard work and commitment to sustainable practices. Meantime, Mayor Laurier Falldien congratulated the mill on its 70 years of operation on behalf of council and the citizens of Nairn and Hyman Township. Further, he thanked EACOM for their generous contributions in keeping the sawmill running.
