Experts Spotlight on the Added Urgency to Eliminate Plastic Pollution

Although plastics offer innumerable advantages in everyday life of humans, careless littering of it poses significant threat to our environment and marine life.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The video unveiled at the annual conference of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) held recently in London presents experts’ views on innovative techniques to tackle plastic pollution and the urgency to deal with plastic wastes. The video furnishes the perspectives of leading experts on effective solutions to address marine plastics litter. It also portrays the need for plastics and the innovative plastics solutions being developed by the industry.

Although plastics offer innumerable advantages in everyday life of humans, careless littering of it poses significant threat to our environment and marine life. A committed effort by all stakeholders to prevent plastics from leaking into the environment is required. Significant investments in waste management systems and infrastructure and creation of awareness among public through education programmes may help to curb plastic litter.

The experts who feature in the video include Richard Thompson OBE – Professor of Marine Biology, University of Plymouth, Patrick Thomas – Founder of the World Plastics Council, Robert Kaplan – Founder/CEO, Circulate Capital, Nina Goodrich – Director, Sustainable Packaging Coalition and Anton de Vries – Director, Enerkem.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) highlighted the need to work with the entire value chain to eliminate plastic waste. The British Plastics Federation (BPF) urged to take positive steps to achieve more sustainable use of plastics.
