U.S. Packaging Paper Exports Surged 7.2%: AF&PA

The U.S. printing-writing paper shipments recorded notable decline by 4% in October.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly report published by the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) indicates notable jump in U.S. packaging paper exports in October, when compared with the previous year.

The total packaging paper shipments were up by 7.2% when matched with October 2017. The year-to-date shipments until October ’18 edged higher marginally by 3.1%. The operating rate during the month remained more or less flat at 95.6%, as compared with 95.9% during the prior month. The total inventories were down by 5.3% when matched with October last year. Since Sep ’18, the inventories registered a decline of 1.2%.

AF&PA report states that year-to-date bag and sack shipments surged higher by 6% over 2017. Multiwall and Converting shipments were up marginally by 0.9% and 0.7% respectively. Meantime, food wrapping shipments have increased by 2.5% over the previous year.

The U.S. printing-writing paper shipments recorded notable decline by 4% in October, as compared with the previous year. The shipments of coated mechanical paper have decreased by more than 10% year-over-year in October. The shipments of uncoated mechanical papers too plunged by 10% during the month. Meantime, similar decline by 4% was witnessed in shipment of uncoated free sheet. On the other hand, shipments of coated free sheet paper registered increase for the first time since June last year.

The containerboard production edged higher marginally by 0.5% in October, at an operating rate of 96.2%.
