New Industry Coalition Expands Polystyrene Recycling

The Pyrowave’s revolutionary technology will act as the link between ReVital and INEOS Styrolution.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Three industry leaders announced a strategic partnership to boost collection and recycling of single-serve polystyrene packaging. The announcement was made at the ‘G7 Ministerial Meeting on Working Together on Climate Change, Oceans and Clean Energy’ being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from September 19-21, 2018.

According to a joint press release issued yesterday, ReVital Polymers, Pyrowave and INEOS Styrolution decided to collaborate on recycling the polystyrence packaging collected from various sources including curbside collection, depots, restaurants, offices, schools and universities. The partnership will make use of the most advanced recycling technology pioneered by Pyrowave, thereby preventing polystyrene packaging from going to landfill. The collaboration aims to curb plastic pollution in marine environments.

The partnership will employ innovative technology to recycle the collected polystyrene to be used in manufacture of new products and packaging. The increased support from the public and private sector will help to overcome the current limitations in recovery of polystyrene, the companies noted.

The Pyrowave’s revolutionary technology will act as the link between ReVital and INEOS Styrolution. The project is expected to generate great economical value and create and maintain jobs in the plastics recycling industry. In addition, it will prompt addition of polystyrene packaging to recycling programs, regardless of color, food residue or odours.
