Mpact Opens New PE State-of-the-Art Corrugated Packaging Facility

In the second and final phase of the project, the company plans to install a fully-integrated printing and converting machine as well as a flat-bed die-cutter.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mpact- South Africa’s largest recycler and one among the largest paper and plastic packaging makers, has announced investment of R150 million towards construction of a state-of-the-art corrugated packaging plant in Port Elizabeth. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by top company executives, employees and customers. The investment is part of company’s extensive modernization programme.

The investment mainly comprised of installation of a new state-of-the-art corrugator machine, intended to double the plant’s production capacity. In addition, the new machine is expected to result in production efficiency and energy saving. The company had already entered into agreement with German recycling equipment supplier BHS towards supply and installation of the machine.

Johan Stumpf, Mpact Corrugated Managing Director noted that the opening of the new factory is an important milestone for the company. The expansion of the Port Elizabeth plant will extend Mpact’s national footprint. Furthermore, it will enable the company to offer highest levels of quality and service to its customers. He thanked all Mpact employees and partners for their dedicated hardwork in achieving its objective. In the second and final phase of the project, the company plans to install a fully-integrated printing and converting machine as well as a flat-bed die-cutter. This work is already under progress and is expected to be completed during the second half of 2018, Stumpf added.

Bruce Strong, Mpact Group CEO noted that the investment demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to serve its Eastern Cape customers for many more years to come.

The company has been making significant capital investments in the region over the past several months. It had invested nearly R865 million towards plant upgrades through new equipment purchases. In addition, the company had also opened a new recycling facility at an investment of R50 million.
