Cascades Inc., has announced that it has taken majority ownership in a tissue converting plant in Grand Prairie, Texas.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster):  Cascades Inc., has announced that it has taken majority ownership in a tissue converting plant in Grand Prairie, Texas. The deal makes Cascades the majority shareholder of Longhorn Paper Converting. The company press release stated that the foresaid investment is the latest in the series of initiatives undertaken by the company to expand market share and boost production capacity in the United States. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Mario Plourde, president and CEO of Cascades noted that the initiative will contribute to significant growth of its core business in the region. It will enhance the company’s presence in south-central US region and help to serve its customers coast-to-coast, he stated. Plourde further added that the initiative is part of the company’s strategic development plans. The location of the tissue converting plant will help Cascades to create synergies with other nearby sites and contribute much to improve its integration rate. The deal is expected to help the company in providing greater flexibility and quality to US customers. Meantime, Jean Jobin, president and COO of Cascades Tissue Group noted that Longhorn Paper Converting offers significant medium-term growth opportunities for Cascades in the southern and western US markets.

The deal follows Cascade’s earlier announcement in June this year to build a $64 million tissue plant in the northwest state of Oregon. The company had stated that the plant will be located on the industrial property adjacent to the Scappoose Industrial Airpark at Scappoose, nearly 12 kilometres away from another tissue production plant in St. Helens. The press release issued by the company noted that construction works at the plant will begin upon completion of the municipal permit process and that the converting lines are expected to be commissioned during the first quarter of 2017.

Prior to that, the company had announced that Norampac, its containerboard packaging division, had announced successful acquisition of a Newton, Connecticut plant owned by Rand-Whitney Container LLC. The corrugated packaging plant was purchased in exchange of equipment and customer base of Cascades’ Norampac New England plant located in Thompson, Connecticut.

Long Horn Paper Converting, located at 1123 W. Carrier Parkway, was established in 2012. The company deals with a variety of products including multifold, center pull and hardwound towels, jumbo roll and commercial bath tissues.
