African crude steel output dropped 10% during Oct '14

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region fell sharply by 10.1%

KAMPALA (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region fell sharply by 10.1% during the month of October year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Algeria during October was 35,000 tonnes, remaining flat when compared with October last year. Egypt produced 465,000 tonnes of crude steel, down 24.4% when compared to 615,000 tonnes production achieved during October 2013. Libya’s crude steel output surged by 38.9% to 85,000 tonnes during the month of October this year. Morocco’s output dropped to 50,000 tonnes of crude steel, when compared to 51,000 tonnes production achieved during October 2013. South Africa’s crude steel output dropped 2.2% from 634,000 tonnes to 620,000 tonnes year-on-year.

When compared with the previous month, Algerian crude steel output remained flat. Egypt’s output has declined marginally when compared with 451,000 tonnes during September this year. Libyan crude steel output in October ’14 increased slightly over the previous month. Morocco’s production remained flat during the month. South African production went higher over the previous month.
