Brazil's welded steel tube imports declined sharply in June '14
According to latest statistics released by the Brazilian Customs, the country’s imports of welded steel tubes have fallen sharply during the month of June this year
SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics released by the Brazilian Customs, the country’s imports of welded steel tubes have fallen sharply during the month of June this year. This is when compared with the imports during the same month a year ago. However, the imports were up from the previous month, data showed.
As per data, Brazil’s imports of welded tubes totaled 8,186 tons during the month. This is 26% lower when compared with the imports during June last year. The country had imported 11,054 tons of welded steel tubes during June 2013. The imports in June were higher when compared with the previous month. The June imports rose 13% over the previous month. Brazil’s imports had totaled 7,245 tons during May this year.
The largest exporter of welded steel tubes to Brazil during the month of June this year was China. The country’s imports from China totaled 2,347 tons, accounting for a little less than one-third of the total imports by Brazil.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s seamless steel tube imports during June ’14 totaled 7,093 tons, posting a decline of 49% when compared with the imports during the same month a year ago. The seamless tube imports by the country during June last year had totaled 13,973 tons. However, month-on-month, the imports jumped nearly 14% from 6,212 tons during May this year.
