In 1984 Power Technology began trading in New Lynn, distributing active and passive electronic components to New Zealand Electronic OEM exporters. Through our market research, strong connections and professional service we quickly grew to offer deeper and more diverse technologies. In 1995 the company moved to its current, purpose-built facilities in Henderson.

Thirty years after opening our doors we remain a leader in the design and distribution of electronic components, batteries, UPS, power systems, and renewable energy – trusted by major resellers and manufacturers throughout the country.

Power Technology has been operating in the solar sector for 15 years, with more than 750kW of panels supplied to residential, industrial and OEM consumers. Over the past decade there has been a rapid uptake of solar technology in the international community. This boom led to huge advances in technology and manufacturing techniques. It also led to unscrupulous manufacturers and salespeople flooding the market with inferior equipment, such was the case in Australia in 2010. To avoid the snake oil, insist on Tier 1 panels, top of the line inverters and a company with a history longer than the length of your investment.

Ideal House

Power Technology has been actively involved in the Ideal House Installation in Beachlands, Auckland. The aim of the project is to establish New Zealand’s first 8/10 home star rated house that is Positive house certified with a Positive energy rating.

Schoolgen

Schoolgen is a programme developed by Genesis Energy to bring solar energy to school children across New Zealand. The aim of Schoolgen is to bring solar energy to life in a fun, exciting way to foster the imagination of our future leaders and decision makers.

Department of Conservation

The Department of Conservation started a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan in 2008. Power Technology has been a lead supplier over the past six years, having installed a total of eight systems as far afield as Stewart and Chatham Islands.

The 60kW photovoltaic system on Motutapu Island is the largest off grid installation in New Zealand. Facilities that draw from the solar installation include D.O.C. Field Centre, 11 houses, telecommunications towers, Motutapu Farms Limited and a centre that accommodates 45,000 child stays per year.
