Our long history shows that we are constantly evolving, and that we are constantly adapting to the times we live in. We are proud of that. Society's attitudes towards waste have changed, and knowledge about harmful substances and environmental impact has fortunately come a long way. In this light, history can tell us about both clear progress - and perhaps some setbacks along the way. Here are some milestones in our history.

One hundred years of pure innovation

Garbage driving with horse and cart Garbage driving with horse and cart 1918: Trondhjem Renholdsverk is established. The operating concept is already about source sorting and recycling. Household waste is sorted as rubbish, pig food and scrap. The city's latrines are emptied daily. Collection in oil drums with horse and cart - and the truck Denis.

1925: The plant at Sluppen is completed, with a powder factory, sorting and incineration plant, feed kitchen for pig food production, pig houses, stables and workers' housing.

1946: End of source sorting in Trondheim. All the city's waste goes straight to the heap. Landfill at Sluppen, Nidarvoll and Lade until 1971, then at Heimdal and Heggstadmoen. 1948–1968: Standardization, automation and modernization: Standardized containers, «NOBØ team», with lid. 1996: Establishment of a recycling station at Leangen and Heggstadmoen.

1997: Full source sorting is reintroduced in Trondheim with a 3-container system for household waste, as well as a return point.

2000: Norway's first car for bottom emptying of containers is purchased in connection with a new source sorting system in Midtbyen.

2007: Purchase of two hybrid cars and a refuse truck for waste suction.

2008: Trondheim's first mobile waste suction is put into operation at Kattem.

2009: The landfill ban takes effect on 1 July. An important milestone for the industry and for the environment. The landfill at Heggstadmoen will be closed for good.

2010: The first Recycling Day is arranged at Torvet in Trondheim in collaboration with Fretex. This is becoming an annual tradition. Inlet hatches waste suction Grilstad Marina

2013: Trondheim's first stationary waste suction for household waste opens at Grilstad Marina. 2014: Start-up of pre-project central sorting plant for Central Norway.

2015–2016: Trondheim Renholdsverk gathers all its operations at Heggstadmoen.

2018: The Trondheim Renholdsverk Group turns 100 years old and it is summarized in the book
