About Yard

Unwanted electronic devices, they’re everywhere – in our homes, our schools, our businesses and public institutions. Some may still work to a degree, others may be beyond repair. Regardless of their condition, they take up valuable space in our homes and lives and yet the information they store can be even more precious. Computers, cell phones, servers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers all contain data that can be dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands. Even if a device is “off line” or decommissioned, it can pose a security risk to your organization or family. That’s why who you choose for your computer recycling and other electronics recycling is so important. At American E-Cycling, we will find a new use for your unwanted electronic devices and all of the things that go with them, but with our process you have the assurance that your data is completely destroyed. Call us today to find out how our team of professionals makes e-cycling easy, convenient, secure and tailored to your unique needs.

Ethical Recycling

It is estimated by the US Environment Protection Agency that nearly 70% of all end-of-life electronics are never recycled and wind up in our nation’s landfills.  Many of these devices contain heavy metals such as beryllium, mercury, cadmium, and lead which can prove toxic to our natural environment.  Equally as important, these devices are comprised of steel, aluminum, copper, plastic, and glass which can be recovered and used in the manufacture of new products with much less of an environmental impact than mining virgin materials.

If it has a power cord or a battery, chances are it can be recycled.  We accept a broad range of computing equipment, telephones, electronic devices and related components and refurbish them for re-use or dismantle them so that they can be used to manufacture new products.  Today, over 98% of every pound of material that we receive is turned into re-usable products. We ensure that the electronic devices are handled in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations and are processed here in the United States.  After all, we are American E-Cycling.

Comprehensive Recycling

We recycle a wide range of computing, telecommunication, and laboratory equipment and related accessories.  In most cases, these items can be recycled free of charge.   A few items require highly specialized processing to safely re-capture hazardous elements such as cadmium, lead, and mercury.   In that case, a small fee will apply.

Enhanced Business Services

Responsible e-cycling isn’t just about the environment. We believe it is just as important that your data is 100% secure.  Data is found in a variety of media and in an expanding array of products:  computers, servers, telephones, cell phones, flash drives, data tapes, and data disks.  In our secure recycling center, we remove and physically destroy all data-bearing devices, rendering them inoperable.  Even if you remove your own data-bearing components, you can rest assured that you have another level of defense.  We frequently find and destroy a few devices that were overlooked by our customers.

On-Site Data Destruction

Consumer protection laws such as the Health Information Portability Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Graham-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999  (GLBA) have elevated concerns about potential data loss for many IT professionals in the healthcare and financial services industries.  Because of these concerns, some customers prefer we remove the data-bearing components from their computers and electronic devices at their place of business.  Our field specialists are trained and equipped to perform this service on location using a specially-designed punch press.  A small fee applies for this service option.

Dismantling and Certificates of Destruction

Manufacturers may have recalled or retired products that they wish to dispose to prevent their re-use for safety or business reasons.  Our cost-effective dismantling service saves them valuable labor time while ensuring that the materials in these products are recycled and properly disposed.  Our team has experience working with a variety of equipment ranging from copiers to medical devices. Once the products are processed, we furnish Certificates of Destruction to document their disposal.

By appointment, we accept a broad range of materials and offer free recycling for most items.   For commercial accounts we also offer:

  • On- site pickups for commercial accounts
  • On-site data destruction services
  • Certificates of Data Destruction
  • Certificates of Recycling
  • Product dismantling services
  • Asset management services

Become an e-cycling partner

Since 2007 we have served hundreds of organizations in the Puget Sound Region and found new uses for more than 4,000,000pounds of computers, monitors, network equipment, peripherals, telephone systems, cell phones, televisions, consumer electronics and industrial scrap through re-use, repair, and responsible recycling practices. The material we safely diverted from landfills has been put back into use or refined to manufacture new products. Using recycled materials is often more carbon-efficient than mining and producing virgin materials, which makes electronics recycling a double-win for our environment.
