With last week's much publicized announcement that Alaska Airlines will be eliminating the use of plastic water bottles on all commercial flights, environmental advocates are abuzz with what this means for the future of single use plastic in the airline industry.
Best-selling author of Zero Waste Living, The 80/20 Way: The BusyPerson’s Guide To A Lighter Footprint and founder of Zero Waste DC,Stephanie J. Miller has weighed in on the significance of this decision.
“Alaska Airlines’ decision to ditch plastic water bottles on its flights is a welcome step in the right direction. If other airlines follow suit, this can be an important new industry standard and signals to customers that airlines understand their large environmental impact, not just due to only fuel use but also plastic waste.”
Stephanie, within her 25-year career at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, served as Director of IFC’s Climate Business Department where she led global teams to find innovative solutions to climate change.
Ms. Miller is available to speak on a myriad of issues pertaining to waste reduction and climate issues.
