SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The lumber production by the North American region recorded 5% decline in Q3 ’19, when compared with the previous year.
According to most recent figures released by the Western Wood Products Association (WWPA), the regional lumber production totalled 34.662m m3 in Q3 last year. The regional production had registered declines by 4% and 6% in the first and second quarters of the previous year.

The U.S. lumber production volume of 21.070m m3, marginally higher by 1% from the similar quarter in 2018. The production by the U.S. South and U.S. Other regions surged higher by 2% and 5% respectively.
On the contrary, the Canadian lumber production recorded sharp decline by 14% at 13.592m m³. The country reported weakest quarter of 2019 in Q3. The decline in output was mainly attributed to the reduced production on account of sawmill shutdowns in the B.C. province. Kelowna and Tolko Industries had announced permanent closure of their regional mills. In addition , several sawmills in the region had announced production cutbacks.
The North American lumber production in Jan-Sep ’19 totalled 106.711m m³, down significantly by 5% over the prior year.
