SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) published the list of top ten crude steel producers during the month of October this year.

China continued to remain as the topmost steel producer, with an output of 71.6 million tonnes (Mt). The country’s output witnessed substantial decline by 23.3% from October last year. The country’s cumulative steel output totalled 877.1 Mt in Jan-Oct ’21, down marginally by 0.7% year-on-year.

The second largest crude steel producer was India with estimated output of 9.8 Mt. The country’s output recorded year-on-year surge by 2.4%.  The Indian crude steel production totalled 96.9 Mt through October this year. In third place was Japan, whose output recorded year-on-year surge by 14.3% to total 8.2 Mt during the month of October this year. The cumulative output by Japan was up by 17.5% to total 80.4 Mt during Jan-Oct’21, worldsteel data said.

The other world countries to feature in the top-ten list include the U.S. (7.5 Mt), Russia (6.1 Mt), South Korea (5.8 Mt), Germany (3.7 Mt), Turkey (3.5 Mt), Brazil (3.2 Mt) and Iran (2.2 Mt).

The steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the association was 145.7 million tonnes (Mt) in October 2021, down by 10.6% compared to the same month a year before. These 64 countries had accounted for approximately 98% of the total world crude steel production in 2020.
