SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of January this year. Among the countries in the list, China, the U.S., Germany and Brazil recorded year-on-year decline in production, while all the remaining six countries witnessed rise in production.
China topped the list, with the country’s output recording significant decline by 6.9% over the same month a year before. The country’s crude steel output totalled around 77.2 Mt during the month.

India’s estimated output, at 12.1 Mt, recorded significant surge by 7.3% over January last year. The Japanese output edged higher marginally by 0.6% during the initial month of the current year to total 7.3 Mt.
The U.S. produced 6.8 Mt of steel, a tad lower by 0.3% year-on-year. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.2 Mt, higher by 1.2% year-on-year. The South Korean crude steel production edged higher by 1.5% to 5.7 Mt. Also, Turkiye recorded 24.7% surge in production to 3.2 Mt.
The eighth largest producer was Germany, whose output dipped by 0.9% total 2.9 Mt. The country to record largest production rise was Iran. The country’s output totalled 2.6 Mt, significantly higher by 39.3% year-on-year. Meantime, Brazil’s output saw the biggest decline, falling by 7.2% year-on-year to 2.5 Mt.
