The finalists will now be invited to compete for the title of World Champion in Madrid, Spain, on 16 April 2019.

World Steel Association Announces Finalists of steelChallenge-13 Industry Contest

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced steelChallenge-13 World Championship Finalists. The winners were selected from the Regional Championship held 28 November 2018, which reported nearly 1,900 participants from 48 different countries across the world.

The finalists from ‘Student’ Category are: Vid Vengust, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Dylan Da Silva Santos, Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brazil; Yu-En Chang, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, China; Wei Zhang, Chongqing University of Science & Technology, China and Shao-Wei Lou, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, China.

Meantime, the regional champions who qualified for the finals from ‘Industry’ Category are: Tom Neuvel, Tata Steel Europe, Netherlands; Marcelo Ricardo de Souza Angelotto, Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecem, Brazil; Kim Yongtae, POSCO, South Korea; Sanfeng Jin and Yijie Han of HBIS Group Co., Ltd, China.

The finalists will now be invited to compete for the title of World Champion in Madrid, Spain, on 16 April 2019. All finalists will be awarded certificates, cash prizes and iPad in addition to trip expenses. The winners of the World Championship in both categories will be awarded a World Champion certificate, an additional cash prize and the steelChallenge trophy.

The annual competition is held with the aim of inspiring and motivating students and steel industry professionals to lead the charge in creation of more innovative and sustainable steel industry.
